i have a 94 ford ranger and im looking to drop it. but first i have a question....i've heard of airbags, and i know they are similar to hydraulics...but what are they exactly? how much are they usually? how much hassle?

by the way....im not looking to hop my truck or anything. i just want it low, then lift it a few inches to drive it.

If you want an air-bag set-up that is as fast as a hydro setup its gonna cost you much more than a basic hydro setup.
the good thing about air is that there is almost no maintanence,eg,leaking cylinders,sticking solonoids,bursting hoses,etc.
seeing that you dont want to hop you'll probably go for a manual valve system,which is much cheaper than any hydro system.
